Top Ten Quotes (Part 1)

1. “If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” –Serious Black

This quote is not only one of my favorite quotes, but one of the world’s favorite quotes as well. A simple google image search will tell you that. But why is it so popular? I think that it has gained its fame because at some point in our lives we have been talked down, used, or abused by a superior and wished that the world saw them in their true light. It also teaches us that we must always look at how we treat others, no matter who they are or where they come from. Don’t be a Barty Crouch, respect each other.

2.“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” – Albus Dumbledore (Find this wall decal on Etsy)

This quote is one that I love because it speaks to the weakness inside of me. It reminds that voice inside of my head that I don’t have to go through my pain alone, it is not a cross that I alone must bear. It gives me hope that, if I ask, those that love me will be there to help me in my times of need. It also reminds me that I am never alone, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome me home carry me through.

3.“Percy wouldn't notice a joke if it danced naked in front of him wearing one of Dobby's hats.” – Fred and George Weasley

When I read this I broke out in laughter, not because of the joke itself, but because I, like Percy, often miss jokes. I am even worse at telling jokes! I will tell a joke that people understand but don’t think is funny so they won’t laugh. I take their lack of laughing to mean that they didn’t understand so I proceed to explain it which makes it even less funny.

4.“It is my belief... that the truth is generally preferable to lies.” – J.K. Rowling (Find this necklace on Etsy)

When you were little did your parents ever say “If you tell me the truth you will be in less trouble.” Did you than think “You LIAR!!” and proceed to lie anyway? I know that this happened to me on multiple occasions as a child and tween. I didn’t understand that they weren’t lying until I started to work at a daycare and I found myself saying the exact same thing. I would see a child being rude to another child and I would give them the chance to come clean to me and get by with just a warning the first time. In the majority of cases they would tell the truth but every now and then there would be the brat that would lie to me and wind themselves in time out for not only being mean to another kid, but for lying to me when I told them that the truth would set them free.

5.“It is a strange thing, but when you are dreading something, and would give anything to slow down time, it has a disobliging habit of speeding up.” – J.K. Rowling

Ever since I read 100 Years Of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez I have been fascinated by the idea of time. I know that I will do more posts about time in the future but this basic idea is one that both fascinates and frustrates me. I am currently waiting to hear back about a job and the days could not slip by slower if they were molasses. On the other end of the spectrum I think about the day that my parents and sister will pass and I realize that the time I spend with them is too short and far between and it pushes me to make more time for them even though I no longer live at home and I’m so busy.

Dream Dust: The Dragon Re-Imagined

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire the first task is to retrieve a golden egg from a mother dragon's nest. Try to re-imagine the definition of what a dragon looks like, can do, and where they can be found. Be creative and let your imagination fly!!

Dream Dust: What would come

"What's comin' will come, an' we'll meet it when it does." - Hagrid

Take this quote from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and put it into a different context than the one in the book.

Valentines Weekend and an Adventure in Food:

Last Friday was Valentines Day, and I must say that it was the best Valentines Day I’ve had so far! My sweetheart and I began the afternoon by cuddling in front of Netflix and contemplating what we would do for dinner. We (after short deliberation) decided that we would rather cook our own dinner than eat out due to the fact that we both enjoy cooking, dislike crowds, and appreciate the opportunity to save a bit of money. This decision required that we make a trip to our local HEB for some groceries and inspiration. Before I proceed in the story you all should know something about my sweetheart and I, WE ARE SO BAD AT MAKING DECISIONS WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD! This is true because neither of us have strong opinions on what we prefer to eat because we both like pretty much anything. We also care more about making the other person happy which means the phrase “I don’t care, whatever you want!” gets said a lot. Finally, we both have so many good ideas about what we should make that we can’t choose between them. This lack of decision making leads to hour long trips to the grocery store and the trip on Valentines Day was no exception. So, after what seemed liked forever we left with the ingredients to make steak and pesto pasta. We than spent the greater majority of the evening cooking and having fun together.
The next day we found that our desire to cook and eat good food had not died. So we decided to use the left over steak for steak tacos!! This required yet another trip to the store for taco shells and salsa ingredients. While we were at the store we saw that the strawberries were only $1.25 a lb! So naturally we bought 2lbs of strawberries, some angel food cake, and whip crème for our desert.

After that night’s feast we found ourselves left with a ton of limes from the salsa and a lot of uneaten strawberries. Being the indulgent and overzealous people we are, we decided to take on the task of making fresh strawberry limeade. It turned out GREAT thanks to the recipe we found on the blog Foodie With Family!

Sunday rolled around and we couldn’t get the amazingly sweet and tart taste of the drink out of our minds so we resolved to make a second batch, and this time I took pictures so I could show y’all the process and just how pretty it looked.

I would recommend using a citrus juicer because this step took way too long and gave us hand cramps. Go try it!

Tell me what you like to cook in the comments below. I love trying out new food and I'm excited to hear what ya'll enjoy!

J.K. Rowling's Relationship Regret (part 1): A Bomb that Shook Up the Harry Potter Fandom and Got Millions Talking

Considering that it is Valentine’s Day and all, I thought that I would offer up mt two cents about the news about the big, hot topic romance regret that recently shook up many of us in the Harry Potter fandom. About a week ago J.K. Rowling came out with a statement in which she said that she regretted matching up Ron and Hermione. What was almost more shocking to hear was that she would have rather put her with Harry and killed off Ron… what?!?! That was my first reaction anyway. Soon after, however, the fangirl in me calmed down and the English Major in me took over. Almost immediately a few questions arose, the first being: what would have changed in the books if that had been the case? The next question being, what significance would Ron’s death have had on the novel and character development? Another one was, what would Harry and Hermione’s relationship possess that her and Ron’s did not in order to make Joe think this? My final question asked, with this new arrangement, who would everyone end up with and what would happen to their post-war relationships with each other?

I just wanted to pose these questions for now and get you thinking about what love means among these characters and what love means to you. Celebrate all forms of love today and come back later for my answers to these questions which I will post in parts.

Let me know in the comments below what your initial thoughts about this news was, and what aspect of the topic you want me to talk about in part two and beyond!
